Reimagining how homes (and families) come together

Homes can be healthy, beautiful, and enduring; a place where generations thrive together.

Phoenix Haus began with a deeply personal mission: to make homebuilding healthier, smarter, and more connected. What started as one family’s search for a better way to live has evolved into a movement redefining what ‘home’ means for families and developers across the West.

Our story began with one simple question…

What is the best way to build a home?

The Mission

Where purpose meets precision

Too many families live apart in homes that separate rather than support them. Phoenix Haus exists to change that.

We design and craft Passive House–level homes built off-site with precision in Colorado, helping families and developers create spaces where generations can live together in health, comfort, and connection.

Because if homebuilding remains stuck in outdated, unhealthy methods, we all lose more than our time and money; we lose the chance to build the shared future we deserve.

Our Story

Building better homes for the Intermountain West

Our founder, Bill McDonald, developed severe breathing issues as a child due to unexplained allergies. Growing up in a shared home with his grandparents, he saw the power of connected living and began exploring how families around the world share space for greater well-being and lower costs of living. His experience inspired a new way to think about homebuilding — one that prioritizes health, connection, and sustainability for generations.

Phoenix Haus is committed to reimagining how custom home building is done across Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, New Mexico, Washington, and Arizona. We have spent years refining the PHI-certified Alpha System, a Passive House–level component system built in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Every Homestead model is engineered for Passive House–level performance with continuous fresh air ventilation and built from wood-based assemblies that contain no foams or oil-based chemical adhesives. We use only low-emitting, acrylic-based tapes and membranes that do not off-gas. The result is a healthier, quieter home that exceeds code requirements, improves comfort, and lowers the total cost of ownership.
